Olympic Games Paris 2024 is almost here. The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games promise more than just a sporting event; they offer a visual feast and a cultural celebration that encapsulates the very essence of Paris and France. The visual identity for these Games is a masterstroke, blending vibrant colors, bold aesthetics, and profound symbolism, all wrapped in the elegance that French design is known for. This visual concept is an open invitation to celebrate, grow sport, and showcase what makes the Games, Paris, and France so remarkable.

Four Pillars of Visual Identity 🎨

The visual identity of Paris 2024 is built upon four foundational themes: celebration, style, responsibility, and collective spirit.

  1. Celebration🎊 (A Sense of Festivity): The design evokes a sense of joy and festivity, capturing the vibrant and lively atmosphere that the Games bring to the host city. This celebratory theme is a visual embodiment of the excitement and unity that the Olympics foster.

  2. Transfer🇫🇷 (A Sense of Style): The elegance and style intrinsic to French culture are seamlessly integrated into the visual identity. The design reflects the sophisticated charm of Paris, showcasing a refined and modern aesthetic that is both bold and pleasing to the eye.

  3. Rationalisation🌿 (A Sense of Responsibility): The visual identity also emphasizes responsibility and sustainability, mirroring the commitment of Paris 2024 to leave a positive legacy. This rational approach is evident in the thoughtful use of resources and materials in all design elements.

  4. Personalisation🌍 (A Sense of the Collective): Finally, the design fosters a sense of collective identity and personalization, resonating with the diverse and inclusive spirit of the Games. It celebrates individuality while emphasizing the unity and shared purpose of the global sporting community.

The Emblem: A Symbol of Unity and Equality

The Paris 2024 emblem is a testament to the unique approach of these Games. It combines three symbolic elements: the medal, the flame, and Marianne, the personification of the French Republic. This emblem is not only a face of the Games but also a symbol of inclusivity and gender equality, as Paris 2024 will be the first Olympic Games to achieve perfect gender balance among athletes. The same emblem is used for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, underscoring Paris 2024’s commitment to equal ambition and excellence for all athletes.

Color Palette: A Tapestry of Diversity

The color scheme of Paris 2024 is a harmonious blend of blue, pink, gold and violet pastels. These colors are not just aesthetically pleasing but also symbolize the richness and diversity of France. The pastel hues bring a sense of elegance and lightness, embodying the artistic spirit of Paris while adding a contemporary touch to the overall design.

Posters: The Most Iconic Poster Ever

Paris 2024 collaborated with illustrator Ugo Gattoni to create vibrant posters that capture the richness and diversity of the Games. Featuring major symbols of Paris 2024, the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and references to Paris and France, these posters are a fresco showcasing sport in the city. They embody the motto “Games wide open,” telling a festive, moving, and universal story. Gattoni’s work is based on three creative axes: effervescence and profusion of detail, reverie and fantasy, and cheerfulness and lightness, creating a colorful and imaginative portrayal of the Games.

‍Mascots: Icons of Freedom and Revolution

Departing from tradition, the Paris 2024 mascots embody an ideal and a powerful symbol of freedom, rooted in a historical reference familiar to all French people. The mascots, the Phryges, are two small Phrygian caps representing a revolution in sport. Each mascot, one for the Olympic Games and one for the Paralympic Games, has its own unique personality, designed to inspire and propel the French people and the global community toward the Paris 2024 Games. These mascots encapsulate the spirit of revolution and freedom, deeply resonating with French history and culture.

Sports Pictograms: Full of Style & Elegance

Paris 2024 pioneers a new era in pictogram design, transforming them into badges of honor that embody not just sports disciplines but also familial bonds, pride, values, and community. These symbols serve as emblems and banners of unity, proudly waved and worn to signify belonging within a sporting family. Moving beyond mere functionality, Paris 2024 pictograms evoke deep emotional connections, symbolizing affinity with a vibrant sporting community. Each pictogram integrates three essential graphical elements — symmetry, ground depiction, and sport representation — infused with French style and elegance, blending art seamlessly with sport.

Medals: Bring Eiffel Tower and Paris back home

The medals for Paris 2024 are designed with elements of French heritage and elegance, featuring a piece of original iron from the Eiffel Tower. Crafted by LVMH jeweler Chaumet, the design includes a hexagon shape, radiance lines, and gem-setting techniques. This unique integration symbolizes national pride and the Games’ legacy. The Olympic and Paralympic medals share a side showcasing this Eiffel Tower piece, representing unity and history. The reverse sides tell unique stories: the Olympic medals highlight Greece’s Olympic origins, while the Paralympic medals feature the Eiffel Tower from a new perspective.

Metal Trays, Metal Trunks & Torch Trunks: Beautiful & Very Vuitton

The medals trays for Paris 2024, crafted by Louis Vuitton artisans, evoke the Maison’s trunkmaking heritage. Created in the Beaulieu-sur-Layon workshop, these trays feature the historic Damier canvas exterior and a matt black leather interior, referencing Louis Vuitton’s iconic trunks. Designed to be lightweight, each tray holds two to six medals and showcases French savoir-faire. These trays, along with bespoke medal and torch cases, epitomize LVMH’s mission of “the Art of Crafting Dreams” and their role as “the Artisan of All Victories” for the Paris 2024 Games.

Louis Vuitton designed the torch and medal trunks for Paris 2024 with meticulous attention to detail and heritage. The torch trunks, equipped with circular sockets to secure Mathieu Lehanneur’s champagne-colored, water motif torch, feature the signature Damier canvas, brass corners, and black leather interiors to prevent scratches and highlight the torch against an embossed Paris 2024 logo.

The medal trunks, inspired by Vuitton’s “malle coiffeuse,” are adorned with the famous Monogram canvas and brass protections. These trunks open to reveal drawers designed to hold 468 medals, designed by Chaumet, combining practicality with elegance and tradition.

Torch: Equality, Water & Peacefulness

The Paris 2024 Olympic torch, designed by Mathieu Lehanneur, is a striking champagne-colored object that symbolizes harmony and balance. Its symmetrical, curved shape embodies fluidity and movement, while the undulating water motif at the base represents the Seine River, an iconic element of Paris. The torch’s design aims to reflect the unity and equality of the Games, with a contemporary aesthetic that highlights French elegance and innovation. This torch will carry the Olympic flame across France, symbolizing peace, solidarity, and the spirit of the Games.

Sports Equipments & Facilities: Branded in the Look of the Games

Paris 2024’s creative vision extends to all competition venues, ensuring they are instantly recognizable with the official Look of the Games. From the badminton shuttlecock to the sport climbing wall, not forgetting the blind football ball, the handball goalposts and the athletics track at the Stade de France, 43 competition venues are using a simple palette of blue, green, and purple, complemented by touches of pink for contrast. Each venue’s sports equipment features motifs, symbols, and pictograms, blending seamlessly with the competition areas to enhance athletes’ performance while celebrating Paris 2024’s unique identity.
